Strawberry Hill, Jamaica

See On Map »

Strawberry Hill in the centre of Jamaica is a mountain-top hotel which was formerly an 18th century coffee plantation owned by the Royal Family. The unique retreat is perched in the Blue Mountains over three thousand feet above sea level with magnificent views of the mountains, Kingston and the rising and setting of the sun. Strawberry Hill was named 'Jamaica's Leading Boutique Hotel' at the 2017 World Travel Awards.

Strawberry Hill is a boutique property where 12 Georgian style cottages, studios and deluxe villas have been arranged to create a village set in private tropical grounds.

Strawberry Hill was a well-known meeting place for artists and socialites in years gone by and was famously once owned by the founder of the Island Records label who launched Bob Marley's career. The former plantation was a haven for musicians including Marley, and even today the blend of culture and cosmopolitan sophistication is evident throughout making it one of the most iconic locations to visit in Jamaica.

Designed in a classic Colonial style, each cottage and villa has its own Caribbean charm and individuality.  The bedrooms, studios and luxury villas have dark mahogany furniture with detailed fretwork and Royal Hut fabrics and linens. Four poster beds with drapes, local Jamaican artwork and photographs, French doors, louvered windows and spacious verandahs create a relaxing intimate atmosphere.  The cottages have terracotta bathrooms with deep tubs - perfect for relaxing.  You can even have a bathing ritual and scented candle prepared at turndown every evening and your minibar refreshed every morning with fresh fruit, Jamaican delicacies, fresh spring water and juices.

Dining at Strawberry Hill an experience which fuses traditional Jamaican dishes with contemporary international recipes, creating its own 'new Jamaican' cuisine.  Meals are either served on the Library Veranda or in the private Bamboo Room, while the Jade Vine Terrace is perfect for weddings, larger parties and entertainment. The Poolside and Bar Veranda are ideal spots to relax and enjoy the view. Sunday Brunch is a must - a lavish feast with cold salads and hot appetizers, delicious jerked meats, homemade desserts and the unique Strawberry Bliss sparkling wine.

The outstanding spa is a private and secluded escape offering a range of relaxing treatments with stunning mountain views. The yoga pavilion has views towards the ocean, with private yoga sessions at sunset and sunrise ensuring an unforgettable experience.

Strawberry Hill's tropical grounds have lawns, avocado, mango, coffee, star, apple, orange, lime and guava trees and other beautiful fauna and flora, so a stroll around the 48 acre estate is sure to induce a feeling of total relaxation that you'll remember forever!
Guests can also explore the surrounding countryside with an experienced guide, with different hikes through the Blue Mountains available for different abilities. A number of beaches can be found within an hour’s drive of Strawberry Hill, allowing guests to discover the white-sand beaches and azure waters of the Jamaican coastline.

Our Opinion

Strawberry Hill is perched over 3000ft up in the Blue Mountains - with spectacular views overlooking both Kingston and the mountains. The staff are friendly and polite and the resort has a real sense of simple luxury. Formerly a coffee plantation, the 12 cottages and studios dotted around are all in beautiful georgian style, with the main communal area including the pool, field spa, bar, restaurant, lounge, library and gold room all located in the middle - which gives Strawberry Hill the feeling of being a very exclusive and romantic retreat, whilst still having a relaxed atmosphere.

The food, accommodation and facilities here are all of the highest standard, with traditional handcrafted furniture really emphasising the boutique nature of the resort. The real asset of Strawberry hill is without doubt the location - giving you the opportunity to see a different side to Jamaica, away from the beaches. With each accommodation benefitting from its own private veranda, the views are unforgettable, whether you are watching the morning mist over the Blue Mountains or the twinkling lights below of Kingston at night - it is a completely charming and enchanting resort perfect for those seeking relaxed and luxurious surroundings, with a difference.
